MARK R AMBROSE
I have been a 2D and 3D design professional for over 30 years as an Exposition and Exhibit Designer. As my background is in graphic design and my industry is currently transitioning to hybrid live/virtual engagement as part of the new normal, I am now focusing my aesthetic and administrative talents toward virtual experience and remote team management as ArtropolisDesigns.
Work Experience
Freeman - Executive Regional Design Director / Asst. Director
Sept. 2017 - June 2020
Managed a department of 15 employees representing Creative Design, Floor Planning and Detailing functions. Responsible for hiring, work scheduling, performance reviews, execution of select design projects, approving timesheets and clocked hours, and materials ordering. Duties also included teleconference meetings with peers in other regions, project visibility meetings with Sales personnel, and face-to-face studio meetings with Design team. In addition, worked with corporate and local IT personnel to ensure all design workstations and equipment were kept up to date with the latest hardware and software.
In July 2019, transitioned to coordination with national Group leaders for Creative Design, Floor Planning and Detailing who took over hiring and training responsibilities for these teams when the company moved to a matrix management arrangement. Increased focus on project visibility for our region, coordinating with Sales leaders and Design team supervisors on performance and scheduling issues. Began making the transition to project management and coordination on select complex projects to assist Design, Sales and Operations for our region.

Managed a department of four employees, including Senior Designer, Intermediate Designer, Floor Plan Designer/Detailer and part-time Floor Plan Designer. Responsible for hiring, work scheduling, performance reviews, materials ordering, supervision of fire marshal approval process for floor plans, execution of select design projects, and tracking/reporting of design hours for out-of-town shows for inter-branch billing. Duties also included teleconference meetings with Director of Design Operations and Design Managers from all branches to implement Corporate Design policy locally. In addition, worked with corporate and local IT personnel to ensure all design workstations and equipment were kept up to date with the latest hardware and software.
Freeman - Senior Designer
June 2000 - Sept. 2007
Concept through final design, including preparation of graphics for production of both associations and exhibitors for this gloabally recognized leader in live events. Responsibilities included interface with clients, account executives, production coordinators and outside graphics vendors, as well as self-art direction under department manager. Projects included large scale graphics and directional signage for associations as well as graphics for exhibitor booths, and also design of exhibit structures for both, utilizing either an aluminum exhibit system or custom fabricated elements. All design work was executed digitally on PC, using AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX, Illustrator and Photoshop. Also leveraged animation in MAX and DVD production in Premiere for walk-through presentations. Clients included associations and exhibitors from a wide range of industries participating in trade show conventions nationally. Also participated in special software training programs with other employees at branches in other cities.

Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, Washington, DC
Graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design, May 1986. Recipient of the Corcoran Graphic Design Award, 1985 and 1986. After an internship with Design & Production Inc. in Lorton, VA, transitioned from 2D to 3D design for museums and and trade show exhibits, culminating in a position with Miles Fridberg Molinaroli Inc. in Washington, DC designing Smithsonian-quality traveling exhibitions.
